About UPMC Shadyside:

UPMC Shadyside's Medicine Division provides new nurses with the foundations to develop and be a part of the future of care. Nurses who work in these units are developed and trained to maintain collaborative relationships with physicians, other healthcare providers, patients, and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care.

+ 3 Pavilion, Internal Medicine: A medical telemetry/internal medicine teaching unit with 24 beds. This highly trained, team-oriented unit primarily cares for medical, cardiac monitored patients, and stroke patients. All nurses are telemetry trained and NIH stroke scale certified. This is a teaching unit with a dynamic learning environment, where you will gain experience with chest tubes, feeding tubes, trachs, and monitors.

3 Pavilion has a fast pace of work and a diverse patient population.

+ 3 East, Family Practice: A family practice and teaching unit with 23 beds. The patient population on 3 East is comprised of all ages that are being treated for a wide array of conditions and are in need of compassionate and expert nursing care. 3 East offers a fertile learning environment with exposure to diverse patient care opportunities.

+ 4 East, Internal Medicine:
An internal medicine and teaching unit with 24 beds. 4 East was the first med/surg unit in PA to receive the ANCC Silver Beacon Award for Excellence. In this unit, you will see a high number of cystic fibrosis and peritoneal dialysis patients, in addition to patients with pulmonary conditions such as COPD and pneumonia. 4 East strives to create a uniquely caring and healing environment, with a staff that is very supportive of each other.

+ 4 Pavilion/South, Medical Cardiology & Internal Medicine:  An Internal Medicine and Medical/Interventional Cardiology unit with 35 beds. The patients on this unit are typically admitted for a wide variety of medical conditions with a concentration on cardiac management and procedures such as PTCA, pacemaker insertion, or AICD insertion. The unit culture is team-oriented with a supportive staff, a great place for both experienced nurses as well as graduate nurses.

+ 5 Pavilion, Medical Telemetry/Cardiology:
An 18-bed medical telemetry and cardiology unit. 5 Pavilion is a highly trained, team-oriented unit primarily caring for medical, cardiac monitored patients, and stroke patients. All nurses are telemetry trained. This is a teaching unit with a dynamic learning environment, where you will gain experience with chest tubes, feeding tubes, trachs, and monitors.
