What You'll Do
As a Senior Professional Staff Nurse, you'll combine expert clinical practice with leadership responsibilities, including:
+ Serving as a role model and recognized clinical leader for nursing excellence.
+ Coordinating and providing comprehensive care for pre-operative and post-operative surgical patients.
+ Collaborating with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
+ Utilizing advanced assessment, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills.
+ Supporting evidence-based practice initiatives and quality improvement efforts.
+ Mentoring and precepting new nurses, graduate nurses, and students.
+ Promoting a culture of teamwork, professional development, and shared governance.
+ Building meaningful relationships with patients, families, and colleagues while creating a compassionate, patient-focused experience.
About Our Same Day Surgery Department
Our Same Day Surgery team cares for a diverse surgical population, providing both pre-operative and post-operative care for patients across a wide range of specialties. With 40 to 70 surgical cases daily, you'll experience a dynamic environment where teamwork, clinical expertise, and compassionate care make a lasting impact on patients every day.
Schedule
Our nurses primarily work 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM shifts. Occasional alternate shifts (7:00 AM to 5:30 PM and 9:30 AM to 8:00 PM) are rotated among staff to ensure coverage and teamwork.
Weekend commitment is minimal, requiring one on-call shift on a Saturday or Sunday approximately once every three months, shared among the team.

Minimum 2 years experience
.BSN preferred
.Annual completion of 1 professional contribution selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by Unit Director as set forth through UPMC's My Nursing Career Ladder OR certification.
Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held.
If a BSN is held, a Master's degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of Certification.,
The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below. They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
