As a Wound Care Specialist, you'll play a key role in supporting patients across a variety of care settings while maintaining meaningful patient interaction without the demands of traditional bedside nursing. This primarily daylight position offers a flexible Monday through Friday schedule with occasional weekend coverage as needed and coverage surrounding holidays. You'll collaborate with an experienced team that is actively working toward department-wide WOCN certification and is passionate about delivering high-quality, evidence-based wound care.

_The Wound Care Specialist is a valued step in UPMCs Wound Care Career Ladder. The final candidate will be placed in the appropriate title and pay rate depending on education and experience_

+ Assess, develop, and implement individualized plans of care for patients with wounds, ostomies, fistulas, incontinence, and alterations in skin integrity.
+ Perform comprehensive clinical assessments, identify patient care needs, and provide evidence-based treatment recommendations that promote healing and positive outcomes.
+ Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, patients, families, and interdisciplinary care teams to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care.
+ Provide ongoing follow-up and continuity of care for wound and ostomy patients, including post-discharge support when appropriate.
+ Serve as a clinical expert and resource for wound, ostomy, and continence care, utilizing current best practices and standards established by organizations such as WOCN and NPIAP.
+ Educate patients, families, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals on prevention strategies, treatment plans, products, and best practices related to skin and wound management.
+ Lead and participate in educational programs, in-services, presentations, and preceptorship opportunities for students, new hires, nurses, residents, and other healthcare team members.
+ Support clinical quality improvement initiatives, evidence-based practice projects, and product evaluations to promote safe, effective, and cost-conscious patient care.
+ Participate in skin care committees, shared governance councils, and interdisciplinary teams to advance patient outcomes and professional practice.
+ Foster a positive, collaborative work environment by building strong professional relationships and serving as a role model for professional nursing practice.
+ Maintain complete and accurate documentation that supports continuity of care and effective communication among caregivers.
+ Pursue ongoing professional development and specialty education while contributing to the growth and development of colleagues across the organization.
+ Minimum of 2 years nursing experience
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse license or eligible for State Board Licensure. Certification in Wound Care preferred CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire Special

Required Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physician, non-physician providers. Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment and handle multiple and changing priorities.
Current licensure in practicing state as a Registered Professional Nurse license or eligible for State Board Licensure. UPMC accepted national Wound and Ostomy certification preferred.
