Veterinarian Benefits & Compensation

Veterinarian Requirements & Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) degree
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Pennsylvania
  • USDA APHIS accreditation (or willingness to obtain)
  • DEA license (or willingness to apply)
  • Experience or strong interest in shelter medicine and high-quality, high-volume spay and neuter (HQHVSN) surgery
  • Commitment to animal welfare mission and values

Veterinarian Preferred Background & Skills

  • Interest or experience in community outreach and humane investigations
  • Experience mentoring veterinary staff, students, or volunteers
  • Familiarity with digital radiography, in-house lab work, or modern shelter management software

Veterinarian Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Provide medical and surgical care for shelter animals, public clinic patients, and wildlife
  • Perform spay/neuter surgeries, dentistry, diagnostics, and HQHVSN procedures
  • Develop and implement high-standard treatment protocols
  • Mentor and support veterinary team members, students, and volunteers
  • Participate in community programs, mobile clinics, and public outreach events
  • Collaborate with external partners to improve overall animal care and outcomes
