Join us as a Histotechnician in a full-time Monday through Friday role with a consistent 7:00 am to 3:30 pm schedule, 8-hour shifts, and no weekends, holidays, or on-call. You will work hands-on with a wide range of specimens, using your attention to detail, dexterity, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, supportive environment. Occasional travel to our Brooktree office in Wexford may be needed to support team coverage.

Sign-On Bonus:

We're excited to offer a sign-on bonus to qualified candidates:

* $12,000 for candidates with 0-1 year of experience

* $15,000 for candidates with 1+ years of experience

_The Histotechnician is a valued step in UPMC's Laboratory Career Ladder. Final placement will be based on education and experience._

Responsibilities:

+ Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.

+ Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining, and cover slipping. Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location, including minute biopsy protocols.

+ Perform QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining

+ Ensure all tissues are embedded and cut according to department-specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections, including no folds, chatter, artifacts, or floaters.

+ Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process.

+ Demonstrates progression of skills towards working independently in an advanced staining area. Maintain instruments in accordance with quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols.

+ Supports the academic mission of the department.

+ Perform ancillary or miscellaneous tasks such as filing, cleaning, and stocking supplies. Demonstrate complete knowledge of CoPath related to the Histology workflow.

+ Comply with all UPMC and departmental policies, procedures, and work practices.

+ Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT program within the last 5 years OR

+ an Associate's degree and 1 year clinical Histology experience OR

+ at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/ university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry and 1 year clinical Histology experience OR

+ 3 years' experience working as a Histology Lab Technician or equivalent without certification.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Histotechnician HT (ASCP) certification preferred
