Job Title:
Lab Technician
The primary focus of this position is research and development, with a particular emphasis on working with PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), also known as 'Forever Chemicals'.
Responsibilities- Develop operating procedures and perform tests for various water and wastewater treatment operations.
- Conduct jar tests to determine and optimize chemical dosing for various treatment approaches.
- Evaluate bench and pilot scale operations, including columns and batch testing for ion exchange resins, carbon adsorption, and activated alumina.
- Operate filtration systems such as conventional, membrane, and ceramic systems.
- Collect data by measuring and recording operating conditions like pumping rates, pH, oxidation-reduction potential (ORP), temperature, and pressure.
- Operate and perform light maintenance on small-scale equipment such as pumps, heaters, and mixers.
- Prepare samples for testing and reagents for in-house lab analyses.
- Conduct various laboratory analyses including DO, color, temperature, ORP, M&P alkalinity, hardness, total suspended solids, total dissolved solids, chemical oxygen demand, total organic carbon, turbidity, and phosphorus/phosphate.
- Pull samples for third‑party laboratory analysis.
- Maintain reagents and lab inventory, calibration records for lab equipment, and SDS documentation for lab chemicals and reagents.
- Manage and communicate data effectively.
- Maintain cleanliness of lab equipment and operating areas.
- Proficiency in laboratory, chemistry, and wet chemistry.
- Experience in R&D, particularly with PFAS, is a plus.
- Precision in solution making, measuring devices, data handling, and instrument operation.
- Proficiency with standard laboratory instruments such as pH meters, TSS probes, HACH spectrophotometer, analytical balances, and volumetric glassware.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or a related field.
- Skills in titration, reverse osmosis, quality control, and quality assurance.
Skills & Qualifications
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Demonstrate initiative and willingness to learn and grow in responsibility on the job.
- Detail‑oriented with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills for team collaboration and precise data exchange.
Work schedule:
Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 4 PM, with potential flexibility for later start or finish times depending on testing requirements. The facility, originally built in the 1970s as an environmental lab, has been renovated with new and up‑to‑date equipment. The lab is very clean and operates out of the original building, while office space is available in new pop‑up trailers for computer work.
The location is in a rural part of Indiana.
Contract to Hire position based out of Creekside, PA.
Pay and BenefitsPay range: $22.00 – $24.00 per hour.
