THE POSITION
Are you eager to gain hands–on experience in a scientific setting? The Plant Protection Program of the Department of Agriculture is looking for a Laboratory Assistant to help with diagnostic testing for organisms that cause plant diseases. If you have an interest in laboratory work and want to contribute positively to your community, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
DESCRIPTIONOF WORK
In this position, you will support various tasks in the laboratory, greenhouse, field, and office that focus on monitoring and diagnosing plant diseases. Responsibilities include collecting samples, assisting with testing plant, water, and soil samples using macro- and microscopic examination, nucleic acid extraction, ELISA, and PCR testing. You will also help with greenhouse operations, general laboratory maintenance, and data entry into databases.
WORKSCHEDULE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Temporary full‑time employment, lasting approximately May to November.
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
- Telework is not available for this position.
- Active, non‑commercial Pennsylvania Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
- Willingness to work in Dauphin County, PA.
- Ability to work a temporary, full‑time schedule without benefits.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
- Experience in Biology, Plant Science, or Molecular Biology.
- Experience with greenhouse or field work.
