The Mellon College of Science (MCS) is home to four departments and many programs and research centers that cross disciplines. We approach scientific problems from fresh angles using creative interdisciplinary approaches while drawing on our departmental strengths in the core sciences. MCS faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized for their research in a variety of fields, including polymer science, cosmology, mathematical finance, and neuroscience.
Our Biological Sciences department is seeking a Research Associate to join the team! This role will be responsible for developing software packages for metadata curation and hypothesis testing across publicly available genomes.
Core Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and publish software package for comparative genomics analyses.
- Assist laboratory members with bioinformatic analyses.
- Maintain organized data and scripts on laboratory's server and Git Hub.
- Identifies problems and obstacles to progress; develops strategies to solve problems.
- Performs research experiments following experimental protocol and procedures. Researches and documents information by compiling and maintaining accurate and detailed records.
- Summarizes statistical information for analysis, examination or presentation; writes technical reports. May build and validate quantitative models.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
- 1-3 years of research experience required.
- Experience in bioinformatics, programming, python Nextflow and R required.
- Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, and reasoning skills.
- A combination of education and proven experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
