Job Description SummaryA full-time position is available working with Alice Chen-Plotkin in the Department of Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania. Our research programs study neurodegenerative diseases with a particular focus on Parkinson’s disease. Projects range from clinical research into genetic risk factors for disease outcomes to studying the basic mechanisms of the neurodegenerative disease process.
Job DescriptionWe are looking for a highly motivated person who is excited about doing bench-based mechanistic research, possibly combined with a small component of clinical research. Laboratory responsibilities will include routine molecular biology (PCR, DNA sequencing, genotyping, cloning) and routine biochemistry (immunoblotting) methods, as well as assisting with immunohistochemistry (mouse and human brain tissue) and animal husbandry (mouse models of neurodegeneration). Prior lab research experience is strongly preferred.
All members of the lab are also expected to attend weekly lab meetings and to participate in the educational activities (e.g. journal club) of the lab. Candidates should be enthusiastic, willing to learn, well-organized, and interested in taking ownership of a scientific project.
- Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Degree focus in neuroscience, biology, or data analysis-heavy field preferred. Experience in research setting preferred.
