Research Technician II
The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Infectious Diseases, at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a motivated, reliable, and detail-oriented person to join a virology research lab. Our lab studies the viral and host determinants that dictate chikungunya virus (CHIKV) replication and pathogenesis. The position will include performing supervised and independent research at BSL2 conditions consisting of tissue culture, virological assays, and molecular biology-based assays to uncover mechanisms of viral replication.
The technician's role will be to assist in the execution of a variety of laboratory experiments and working collaboratively with other members of the lab. The position will include an independent research project after training and demonstration of proficiency. Primary tasks will include general lab maintenance, inventory and ordering, generation of virus stocks, viral titer determination, cell culture, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, ELISAs, and SDS-PAGE.
Candidates should have a good knowledge of basic laboratory skills and must be able to work independently on tasks.
