Research Technician

The Grace Lab in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking a research technician to support research in immunology and infectious disease. The lab uses non-human primates as a model to study tuberculosis. The incumbent will perform laboratory analyses including isolation of immune cells from blood and tissues, immunologic assays such as FACS, ELISPOT, and ELISA, plating bacterial cultures, and performing PCR tests.

Equipment used will include microscopes, centrifuges, incubators, ELISPOT reader, and real-time PCR machines. The work will be done in a team environment with close coordination between all team members. The data generated will be entered into an electronic laboratory notebook and shared with the principal investigators and other collaborators who will rely on it to make important scientific decisions.

A bachelor's degree is required with preference given to those with degrees in biology, immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry or chemistry. This position requires the incumbent have immunological and molecular biological skills and the ability to learn and retain a variety of skills, including the operation of lab equipment and mastery of Biosafety Level 3 Techniques. The incumbent must pass a DOJ background check to work in the Biosafety Level 3.
