Laboratory Technician Med-Medicine

The Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine Division is made of up approximately 70 clinical staff and over 100 research staff who work in a variety of locations including:
Bridge side Point, Biomedical Science Tower (BST), UPMC Hospitals including Presbyterian, Shadyside, East, Jameson and Mercy. The division provides world class services across 10 inpatient services at five hospitals and over 70,000 outpatient office visits. We have a major research mission that focuses on basic, clinical, and translational research on the lung, microbiome, COVID-19, sleep medicine, and allergy and immunology. Zhang Lab is hiring a reliable and highly organized Laboratory Technician to support translational studies on lung disease.

This position will support the daily care and management of research mice, assist with approved animal procedures, and conduct routine laboratory experiments. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to animal welfare, biosafety, and regulatory compliance, while maintaining precise records and ensuring that the laboratory remains clean, safe, and well organized.

Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering. Essential Functions
1. Manage laboratory mice, including monitoring their health and behavior, establishing breeding pairs, weaning offspring, and applying identification ear tags.
2. Maintain complete and accurate records of animal health, colony numbers, breeding activities, and experimental results.
3. Conduct genotyping and other standard laboratory procedures.
4. Support investigators with routine approved procedures, including weighing, dosing, injections, and biological sample processing.
5. Monitor and maintain inventories of laboratory supplies, equipment, and materials; reorder items as needed. Physical Effort Must be able to sit/stand for up to 8 hours a day.
