Maintenance Worker, Maintenance Technician ​/ Mechanic, Landscaping

Salary: $25.93 - $30.91 per hour

Location: Whitehall Township, Whitehall, PA 18052 (Lehigh County)

Perform wide variety of routine maintenance work ranging from manual skills and special knowledge tasks to routine manual labor in construction, repair, and maintenance of township's streets, buildings, and properties. Work under general instructions, with detailed assignments for special tasks.

• Operate lawn tractor, push mowers, weed whacker, hedge trimmer for lawn maintenance.
• Mow lawns, weed, trim bushes with hedge trimmer, minor prune trees with chain saw, and other listed equipment as needed.
• Perform landscaping: plant grass, level ground, fill holes with rakes, shovels, and tamper.
• Maintain current skills and knowledge in proper and safe techniques of building and grounds maintenance functions.
• Clean up grounds before and after mowing.
• Rake leaves and apply mulch as needed.
• Keep daily record of grass cutting assignments.
• Perform road repair/maintenance utilizing hot and cold patch materials.
• Participate in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew.
• Perform sanitation jobs such as pick up of leaves, Christmas trees, etc. with rate adjustment to Sanitation/Thrower rate.
• Control traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or assigned.
• Rake and load material for paving.
• Dig trenches, mix concrete, load and unload heavy material.
• Blow out cracks in road.
• Sweep streets.
• Assist in preventative maintenance on all equipment.
• Wear appropriate safety equipment as needed.
• Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
• Perform routine vehicle maintenance as outlined on daily inspection sheets.
• Perform duties as outlined in upper job classifications as required or assigned.
• Perform related work as required.
• May be utilized for snow removal on an as needed basis.

• High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Maintenance experience, preferably in a Public Works function.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Some knowledge of equipment, properties, materials, methods, and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities.
• Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of "right-to-know" laws as instructed and posted.
• Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods, work safely, communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public; understand and carry out written and oral instructions; handle stressful situations.
• Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.

Pick up truck; lawn and landscaping equipment (tractors, mowers, chainsaw, hedgers, weed trimmers, hedge trimmer, bow saw, jack hammer); electric motors, pumps, sprinklers; miscellaneous hand and power tools for lawn and general labor maintenance, painting; shovels, wrenches, mobile radio, phone, and air compressor.

The noise level in the work environment is loud.
