Salary: $31.03/hour ($32.58 to include shift differential for off-shift hours worked).

POSITION SUMMARY:
General maintenance mechanic duties as assigned by a Maintenance Supervisor in areas of heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical,pneumatic preventative maintenance, and general construction. Perform other related duties as assigned.
DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitors, maintains, and performs basic repairs to building electrical systems such as fixtures, switches and outlets; assist licensed electricians with advanced repairs as appropriate.
Monitors performance of HVAC systems for the facility; performs basic repair/replacement of components, as appropriate, including filter changing and cleaning of units.
Monitor sand performs basic maintenance of plumbing systems, to include standard repairof leaking faucets, cleaning obstructed waste lines, and performing basicmodifications to plumbing and water supply systems; assist licensed plumbers,as appropriate.
Performcarpentry maintenance tasks including routine drywall repair, window repair,cabinet and counter top repair, door hardware installation and painting.
Ensures proper care in the use of maintenance equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
Performssnow removal and spreading salt related to building access and hazardouswalkways as assigned.
Notify supervisor of unusual conditions.
Assistoutside contractors and vendors with tasks such as utility isolation and workarea access to allow for the completion of their work as required.
Ordering and pick up of basic materials from Facilities Management.
Coordinates the work of those assigned to you by work leaders or supervisors.
Moves and repairs furniture.
Movesand performs appropriate repair of appliances consisting of but not limited tothe verification of power and obvious electrical/ mechanical faults.
Performduties related to special events where supplemental manpower is required forthe completion of the event.
Continuing education for maintenance and professional subjects is available. The incumbent is highly encouraged to obtaina minimum of 8 hours annually. Thesehours will be recorded and used in consideration for future advancements alongwith merit, hands-on-experience and job-related training.
Completes other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
PA Driver's License Class I
A minimum of five (5) years' experience in building maintenance.
Must be in good physical condition to perform the daily work assignments thatare inherent in this job description, further examples are; lift and manipulateobjects weighing up to 70 pounds regularly and the ability to perform work fromladders, scaffolding and elevated surfaces.
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required toperform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Perform a varietyof routine and preventive building maintenance tasks to include, but not limited to, hot water systems, tile and flooring, and minor repairs toappliances.
Maintain thoroughand accurate records.
Basic computer skills.
Avoid confrontationalsituations and report all incidents to Facilities Management.
Integrity anddependability.
Knowledge of:
Operation,maintenance, and repair of designated area equipment.
Basic and general building maintenance methods, techniques, materials and equipment.
Minor repairs ofsmall appliances.
Basic mechanicalprinciples.
Basic electricalprinciples.
Applicable University, state and federal regulations, policies and procedures related toposition.
Knowledge of the operation of CMMS (computerized maintenance management system).
Building and facilities maintenance, safety and awareness of security issues.
The occupationalhazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Customer service standards and procedures with students, faculty, staff and visitors as itrelates to the mission statement of Duquesne University.
Ability toestablish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
