Axle Surgeon Apprentice- Technician

Hill International Trucks, the Tri‑State area’s leading medium‑ and heavy‑duty truck and trailer dealership, is currently looking for a full‑time Axle Surgeon Apprentice/Technician. The role primarily involves repairing and placing axles and spindles on trucks and trailers, and as a dealership technician maintaining heavy and medium‑duty trucks according to dealership and factory specifications.

Full‑time

• Apprentice will train toward on‑road axle surgeon repairs, including spindle replacement, spider plate replacement, and king‑pin sleeving.
• Technician performs work as outlined on the repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
• Communicates with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
• Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
• Examines assigned vehicles to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
• Communicates with the service advisor/dispatcher immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
• Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
• Participates in manufacturer‑sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
• Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
• Ensures that the vehicle is kept clean and notifies the service advisor/dispatcher of any changes to its appearance or condition.
• Keeps the shop area neat and clean.
• Maintains and is accountable for all dealership‑owned tools and manuals, returning them in the same condition as received.
• Understands and complies with federal, state, and local regulations such as hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right‑to‑Know.
• Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
• Reports any safety issues immediately to management.

• Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.

• Requires standing for long periods.
• Requires bending, stooping, and kneeling for extended periods.
• Requires frequent repetitive hand motion.
• Requires frequent lifting of 5–50 lbs.
• Requires occasional lifting of 50–100 lbs.
• Requires performing accurate, knowledgeable, detailed work.
• Occasional exposure to engine exhaust fumes.
• Works overtime as required.

Monday–Friday 7 am–4 pm. Evenings and Saturdays as needed.

• Stick welding experience required.
• Technician experience preferred but not required.
• On‑the‑job training and in‑shop trailer repair development training as required.
• Valid driver’s license with no accidents or traffic violations in the last five years.
• Ability to pass drug screening.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.
• MUST BE ABLE TO: bend, reach, stoop, lift 50 lbs, sit/drive for extended periods.
