The Position

This position supports the maintenance needs of Torrance State Hospital by performing tasks in carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, and painting. The role focuses on completing repairs, inspections, and installations that help maintain steady and reliable facilities. As a Maintenance Repairman 2, you will perform the following duties:
- Carpentry Work:
Perform repairs and installations involving structures, furniture, drywall, doors, windows, and related items - Plumbing Tasks:
Inspect, clean, and adjust pumps, regulators, fixtures, and other plumbing components - Electrical Services:
Test, maintain, and repair building electrical systems, lighting, and equipment - Painting Preparation:
Prepare and finish surfaces for painting, staining, or protective coatings - Safety Practices:
Follow safety rules, use proper procedures, and maintain knowledge of trade standards - Work Guidance:
Assist and direct semi‑skilled workers as assigned by supervisors
- Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. Emergency call‑ins may be required.

- Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- You must be in possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License.
- You must meet the PA residency requirement.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act. Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to PA State Police and FBI clearance.
