Job Description

The Metal Shop Technician - Welder will fabricate and assemble metal structures and equipment using various welding techniques and tools. The ideal candidate should have experience reading blueprints, operating welding equipment, and maintaining safety standards in the workplace.

The following list of responsibilities is not all inclusive, additional projects and/or tasks may be assigned to meet operational needs. MCG retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position should operational needs warrant.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and measurements.
  • Operate MIG and TIG welders.
  • Cut, shape, and join metal parts using hand and power tools.
  • Inspect welded surfaces and structures to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Repair metal components and equipment as needed.
  • Follow all workplace safety regulations and procedures.
  • Maintain welding equipment and tools in good working condition.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to complete projects on time.
Qualifications

Required Knowledge/

Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a welder or similar role.
  • Knowledge of welding techniques and metal fabrication.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Follow verbal directions to meet production schedule.
  • Ability to use ruler, scale, tape measure, calipers.
  • Possess basic tools including gear wrenches, impact gun, torque wrenches, metric & standard sockets.
  • High dedication to quality of results to avoid rework.
  • Ability to work under pressure/time constraints.
  • Able to work with minimal direction and achieve objectives.
  • Minimum 2 years in general welding and metal working or associated field.
  • Experience in the use of hand tools and hand power tools.
  • Valid driver’s license (for service‑related positions).
  • Satisfactory completion of additional background screening (if applicable).

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • This is a FLSA non‑exempt position and is paid on an hourly basis, where project requirements and tight client deadlines may require workweeks over forty (40) hours (including weekends or holidays).
  • This role is based on the production floor. This position requires standing for extended periods, working around machinery, and adherence to all safety and compliance standards.
  • Mobility:
    Ability to move around the manufacturing plant, including walking, standing, and climbing stairs.
  • Manual Dexterity:
    Occasional use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Lifting:
    Ability to lift and carry items up to fifty (50) pounds. All lifting should be done following OSHA standards.
  • Visual and Auditory Requirements:
    Must be able to see and hear well enough to navigate the plant safely and communicate effectively with team members.
