THE POSITION
Start the next chapter of your Plumbing Career! The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections at SCI Forest is actively seeking a devoted and passionate Plumbing Trade Instructor. As a Plumbing Trade Instructor, you will work as part of a dedicated maintenance team where collaboration and communication are integral. Your efforts will help learners build confidence and develop skills to support stability in their futures.
DUTIES& RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver Training:
Provide classroom and on‑the‑job instruction in standard plumbing practices, methods, and techniques. - Oversee Work Crews:
Guide, assist, and monitor inmate work crews as they complete assignments. - Document Progress:
Maintain accurate records of inmate training progress, attendance, and assignment details. - Manage Tool Use:
Issue, track, conduct searches, and account for all tools and materials used during training and work activities. - Request Materials:
Identify materials needed to complete assignments and submit purchase requests as needed.
- Full‑time employment, 40 hours per week.
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework:
This position does not offer telework. - Salary:
Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at a starting annual salary of $53,036 (before taxes).
- Five years of experience in the inspection, maintenance, repair, assembly, and installation of pipes, fittings, and fixtures used in heating, water, and drainage systems; or
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the plumbing trade; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of journey‑level work in the plumbing trade.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
