Temporary Pipefitter/Plumber

The Temporary Pipefitter/Plumber, under general direction and/or using detailed procedures and/or work instructions, performs simple and routine as well as some non-routine tasks or tests within, but not necessarily limited to, the area of pipe fitting and/or plumbing repair, maintenance, and installation.

Responsibilities
  • Install or repair water, steam, gas, or other types of pipe and pipe-fittings above or below grade.
  • Lay out work and measure to locate position of pipe from drawings, specifications, or work orders.
  • Cut various sizes of pipe to correct lengths with hand tools, torch, or pipe cutting machines.
  • Mount compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools following blueprints or engineering specifications.
  • Thread pipe with stocks and dies.
  • Bend pipe by hand-driven or power driven machines.
  • Assemble pipe with coupling, sleeves, unions, or solder joints and fastens pipe to pipe hangers
  • Make standard shop computations related to size of pipe required, and make standard tests to determine whether finished piping systems meet specifications.
  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures, and open clogged pipes using hand or power-driven augers and snakes.
  • Install, inspect, and rebuild backflow prevention devices in accordance with Federal, State, and local codes and laws.
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure timely project execution.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a vocational training school or apprenticeship program, knowledge of pipefitter/plumbing codes and regulations, and two years journeyman level experience.
  • High school diploma or GED/TASC/ HiSET.
  • Proficient attendance, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work as part of a team or independently.
  • Proficient math, written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to read schematics, diagrams, and technical documents appropriate to trade.
  • Computer proficiency with CMMS, email, payroll time entry, webpage navigation, and online training.
  • Work safely with minimal supervision, good understanding of safety protocols, follow written procedures and verbal instructions, perform administrative and manual work, and manage time to complete assignments.

Preferred Responsibilities/Requirements

  • Qualified union journeyman pipefitter/plumber with five years' experience.
  • Safety training equivalent to OSHA 30.

Conditions of Employment

  • US Citizen
  • Possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver's license and demonstrate a good driving record (no significant violations such as DUI, loss of license, inability to obtain personal insurance or currently covered under a high-risk insurance policy, etc.
  • Must be able to pass a post-offer, pre-placement physical examination and medical history check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check and have a clean motor vehicle report.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the IUOE Collective Bargaining Agreement.
