THE POSITION
Do you enjoy tackling projects that involve building, fixing, and creating essential structures? The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is excited to welcome an ambitious and committed Maintenance Repairman 1 to join the Allegheny County maintenance organization and work with a variety of tools and materials every day. This role supports important repair and construction work that helps maintain safe transportation sites.
DESCRIPTIONOF WORK
This position supports construction and repair projects that keep transportation facilities safe and functional. The role includes measuring, building, inspecting, and assisting skilled workers with a wide range of tasks. As a seasonal Maintenance Repairman 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Construction Support:
Create rough plans, choose tools, and help build structures such as railings, stairs, partitions, ramps, shelves, and inlets - Material Work:
Measure, cut, place, and finish concrete and other materials used in construction - Tool Usage:
Operate motorized and non motorized tools safely and report missing or damaged equipment - Safety Practices:
Inspect work areas, follow safety procedures, document conditions, and respond to incidents promptly - Worksite Assistance:
Perform manual labor tasks that support construction and repair activities under supervision
- Seasonal full-time employment from October 2026 to March 2027.
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.

- Two years of experience in general maintenance work which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades ; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
