Summary, Focus And Purpose

  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical equipment under supervision of the Maintenance and Utilities Supervisor and direction of the maintenance Team Leader.
  • Perform compliant electrical maintenance for supported equipment/facilities; participate in the I/E Technician work group and share assignments without inherent/system-imposed limits.
  • Based on business needs, complete maintenance activities across job groupings where skills are common.
  • May maintain significant business systems (e.g., CMMS data, planning, procurement, scheduling) with authority to assign/coordinate/maintain work for others.
Key Functions
  • Work from drawings/blueprints/schematics/CMMS work orders; follow manufacturer manuals.
  • Assemble, install, disconnect, test electrical equipment (motors, generators, control/electronic components).
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install conduit (EMT/IMC/Rigid/PVC-coated/Aluminum/PVC/Flex, etc.).
  • Install/maintain/test/repair lights, lighting controls, alarms, public address, power distribution, and data processing systems.
  • Troubleshoot circuits using electrical testing; complete load surveys/tests; take corrective actions.
  • Maintain and service electrical equipment; may work on energized equipment using OSHA-approved safety equipment/guidelines.
  • Complete work per company guidelines and NEC; develop/perform equipment modifications.
  • Estimate/layout jobs; prepare bills of materials; order spare parts/tools/stock items.
  • Participate in HAZOPS, waste walkthroughs, Kaizen events, and Lean Six Sigma/quality/safety/environment training.
  • Assist with labor/material estimates and work order assignment/scheduling/prioritization using maintenance management systems.
  • Consult with supervision/mechanics on troubleshooting; write/execute/complete safety permits.
  • Annual field verification for EL qualifications.
Education (Required)
  • High school diploma (or GED) and graduation from an accredited electrician trade school/community college (min. 576 classroom hours), or completion of a formal electrician apprentice program approved by U.S. Dept. of Labor (or equivalent), or verified military training equivalent, or journeyman apprenticeship.
Education (Preferred)
  • Course(s) in electronics.
Experience/Skills/Knowledge
  • Required:

    3 years recent full-time electrician experience in the last 7 years in heavy industrial applications, OR 4 years on-the-job part training within a formal electrician apprentice program, OR 3 years recent full-time military electrician experience (within last 7 years).
  • Read blueprints/drawings/schematics/line diagrams.
  • Analyze electrical maintenance problems, troubleshoot, and apply corrective measures.
Preferred Experience
  • Extensive experience with automatic/automated packaging equipment in drug or food processing industries.
