Base Rate: $62.50/hr.
OT: 4 hours daily, paid at $93.75/hr.
Schedule: 14X14 - 12-hour days
Shift Premium: $1.25/hr night shift premium

Tools Provided: Tools will be provided
Travel Allowance: Paid up to 8 hours at regular rate for the day before and after the 14-day shift

Big Country Equipment is hiring an experienced licensed Heavy Duty Mechanic (Equipment Technician) to perform field service, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy mining equipment, with a primary focus on Pit Viper and Sandvik drills. This is a rotational field-service opportunity working a 14-day-on, 14-day-off schedule. The successful technician will troubleshoot and repair surface drills and other off-road heavy equipment using company-provided tools while supporting customer operations safely and professionally.

Licensed Truck and Transport Mechanics and Agricultural Equipment Technicians may also be considered if they have strong, relevant experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, and repair surface drills, with a primary focus on Pit Viper and Sandvik drills.
  • Perform field-service repairs on drills and other heavy mining and construction equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, transmission, and drivetrain issues.
  • Troubleshoot and repair drill systems and components as required.
  • Repair or replace transmission components, differential gears, driveshafts, hydraulic components, and related equipment components.
  • Use computerized diagnostic software, testing equipment, schematics, and technical information to identify required repairs.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance, preventive maintenance, breakdown repairs, and unscheduled work orders.
  • Perform field-service repairs on other heavy equipment types and brands, including Caterpillar (CAT), Komatsu, Hitachi, and John Deere.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed service reports.
  • Test repaired equipment to confirm safe and proper operation.
  • Recommend required repairs and opportunities to improve equipment reliability.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, customer-site requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain all required trade certifications, licenses, and site training.
  • Report to work fit for duty and prepared to complete assigned field-service work safely.
  • All related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Three or more years of recent experience diagnosing and repairing heavy or off-road equipment.
  • Experience diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing surface drills is preferred.
  • Experience working on Pit Viper or Sandvik drills is preferred.
  • Recent field-service experience is preferred, ideally working independently from a service truck.
  • A valid provincial trade certification as a Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician is preferred.
  • Licensed Truck and Transport Mechanics or Agricultural Equipment Technicians may also be considered when they have relevant heavy-equipment repair experience.
  • Red Seal certification is an asset but is not required for candidates who hold a valid provincial trade certification recognized in the province where they will work.
