DESCRIPTION

OF WORK

This position focuses on maintaining and repairing a wide variety of vehicles and construction equipment to support daily transportation operations. It involves technical mechanical work, inspections, and safety-focused tasks that ensure each vehicle is ready for service. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

  • Vehicle Repairs:
    Repair vehicles including cars, trucks, and tractors including replacing mechanical components
  • Equipment Maintenance:
    Perform diagnostics, tune ups, and system adjustments on assigned equipment
  • Safety Inspections:
    Carry out official inspections and complete related documentation
  • Problem Identification:
    Identify equipment issues using diagnostic tools and determine needed repairs
  • Work Area Safety:
    Maintain a clean work area and follow all required safety procedures
Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full‑time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
  • Telework:
    You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
Additional Requirements
  • This position requires operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
  • Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
