Position: County Caseworker 1 (Local Government) - Wayne County C&Y

description of work

as a county caseworker 1, you will support youth aged 14‑23 in transitioning to adulthood through the independent living (il) program. You will conduct needs assessments and create individualized independent living plans. You will provide hands‑on guidance to help youth develop life skills, education plans, employment strategies, and housing stability. You will conduct visits with youth in various settings such as their homes, foster homes, and schools, sometimes involving transportation.

You will manage a caseload with varying schedules and needs, which may require non‑traditional hours. You will maintain accurate records and reports of youth progress and program activities. You will build rapport with youth, including those who may be challenging to engage, and model pro‑social behaviors. You will organize and facilitate life skills groups and community service activities. You will attend court hearings and meetings with treatment providers and partners to support youth.

You will communicate effectively with youth, families, professionals, and the il coordinator through oral and written communication. You will participate in ongoing training and staff meetings to enhance skills related to transition‑aged youth and relevant topics.

work schedule and additional information
  • full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, monday‑friday, with a 1‑hour lunch.
  • once a caseworker is trained, normal working hours may be flexed to coincide with consumer needs.
  • caseworkers may be put on a rotation for on‑call services which will include nights and weekends.
  • employee may have overnight travel or out‑of‑county travel on a monthly basis.
  • telework: you will not have the option to telework in this position.

required experience, training & eligibility qualifications minimum experience and training requirements
  • two years of experience as a county social services aide 3 and two years of college‑level coursework which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • a bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a county social services aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
  • applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

  • you must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • a conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
  • this position falls under the provisions of the child protective services law.
  • under the law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, pa state police clearance, pa child abuse history clearance, and fbi fingerprint clearance.
