Position Overview
As a Corrections Counselor 2 with the Department of Corrections (DOC), you will use your professional experience and passion for helping others to support meaningful change. In this role at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Huntingdon, you will assist inmates as they build skills, strengthen decision making, and work toward successful re-entry.
Description of Work- Inmate Interviews:
Interview inmates to support their adjustment and provide guidance on behavioral and personal concerns. - Family and Community Support:
Communicate with families and agencies to share information that helps with case management and reintegration. - Case Documentation:
Maintain detailed records and assessments that track inmate progress, needs, and programming recommendations. - Program Coordination:
Coordinate treatment and programming activities using a multi-disciplinary approach to support behavioral change. - Parole Preparation:
Prepare reports and recommendations that assist with parole planning and re-entry services. - Caseload Management:
Manage an assigned caseload independently to ensure effective delivery of counseling and casework services.
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
- Work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility
- Successful completion of the Corrections Counselor 1 training program or equivalent federal position.
- One year of professional counseling or casework experience in a correctional facility and a bachelor’s degree with 18 college credits in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field.
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of professional counseling or casework experience in a correctional facility and 18 college credits in a related field.
- You must obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must meet the PA residency requirement.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
