Outreach Specialist/Group Facilitator

The Outreach Specialist/Group Facilitator serves as the primary liaison between families participating in AIU Family Center programs and community resources. This position is responsible for engaging families, conducting intakes and individual assessments, coordinating services, and connecting families with community-based resources that promote family stability, well-being, and long-term self-sufficiency.

The Outreach Specialist/Group Facilitator develops and maintains collaborative partnerships with county agencies, healthcare providers, educational institutions, social service organizations, and other community partners to increase access to resources for families. In addition, this position plans, coordinates, and facilitates parent education programs, support groups, family engagement activities, and other center-based programming designed to strengthen families and build protective factors.

This position works under the general supervision of the Site Director and is committed to advancing the mission of the Allegheny Intermediate Unit by supporting children, families, and communities through innovative, responsive, and collaborative services.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Welcome and assist families accessing Family Center services.
  • Serve as a point of contact for families seeking information about available community resources and Family Center programs.
  • Conduct basic intake activities and assist families in completing required forms and documentation.
  • Refer families to appropriate Family Center staff or community agencies based on identified needs.
  • Maintain positive, respectful, and supportive relationships with participating families.
  • Assist with outreach activities to increase family participation in Family Center programs and events.
  • Coordinate the preparation and delivery of Hello Baby welcome bags to participating families.
  • Maintain communication with families regarding Hello Baby services.
  • Track deliveries and maintain accurate program records.
  • Assist with inventory of Hello Baby supplies and materials.
  • Coordinate the daily operations of the Family Center diaper bank.
  • Receive, organize, stock, and distribute diapers and related supplies.
  • Order diapers and monitor inventory levels to ensure adequate supplies are available.
  • Pick up diaper donations and deliveries as needed.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and distribution documentation.
  • Enter required data into tracking systems and prepare reports as requested.
  • Assist with coordinating food distributions through 412 Food Rescue and other community partners.
  • Receive, organize, and distribute food items to participating families.
  • Maintain records related to food distributions.
  • Ensure food distribution activities are organized, safe, and welcoming.
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate educational and support groups for parents and caregivers.
  • Coordinate Family Fun Nights, workshops, support groups, and family engagement events.
  • Develop engaging activities that promote child development, family well-being, positive parenting practices, and school readiness.
  • Collaborate with center staff and community partners to identify topics responsive to family needs.
  • Maintain attendance records and evaluate participant feedback to support continuous program improvement.
  • Assist with recruitment and enrollment efforts for Family Center programs.
  • Support family participation in center activities and educational programming.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences.
  • Assist with data collection, reporting, and program documentation.
  • Support grant objectives, performance measures, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Site Director.
Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) years of experience in family support, case management, social services, community outreach, or related human services experience preferred.
  • Experience facilitating adult education or parent groups preferred.
