Overview
The State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Albion is looking for a Corrections Counselor 1 who is motivated to inspire change. In this role, you help inmates build confidence, learn new abilities, and prepare for future success. Your efforts contribute to a safe and supportive correctional environment and help others move forward.
Responsibilities- Interview inmates to support their adjustment and encourage positive problem‑solving.
- Develop and maintain case records and documentation to manage caseloads.
- Analyze assessment results and compile histories to support programming decisions.
- Coordinate with staff across disciplines to align treatment plans and objectives.
- Assist with parole preparation and help secure identification and community resources.
- Full‑time employment, 40 hours per week.
- Work hours:
7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. - Telework is not available for this position.
- Starting salary may be non‑negotiable.
- Minimum of 3.5 years as a corrections officer, or a bachelor’s degree with 18 college credits in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field.
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 18 college credits in a related field is acceptable.
- Education may be considered met once within 3 months of graduation.
- Obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification while employed.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- Meet Pennsylvania residency requirements.
- Be able to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
