Refugee Support Services (RSS) Caseworker

The RSS Caseworker will work as part of a team to provide individualized, employment-adjacent case management services to ORR-eligible individuals and their families, including both newly arrived refugees and those who have been in the U.S. for less than five years. This position will work to identify barriers and a plan to mitigate them, connect clients to community resources, and coordinate services that support employment, economic stability, and self-sufficiency.

Through ongoing assessment, advocacy, and collaboration with other JFCS staff as well as community partners, the RSS Caseworker will help clients achieve their goals and successfully integrate into their communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage an assigned caseload of clients, prioritizing services and daily tasks based on client needs and funder/program requirements.
  • In collaboration with RSS intake staff, conduct comprehensive client assessments to determine service needs, facilitate enrollment in case management and refugee employment programs, and develop individualized Family Self-Sufficiency Plans (FSSPs) that identify goals, needed services and referrals, and strategies focused on achieving self-sufficiency.
  • Work with clients to identify and mitigate barriers to employment, including navigating public transportation, accessing childcare, applying for subsidized housing, completing benefits applications and renewals, accessing legal services, etc.
  • Provide referrals and coordinate services with partner agencies, county human service providers, schools, healthcare systems, and government entities.
  • Maintain regular follow-up with clients, virtually and through home visits, to assess progress, add new barriers, and update FSSPs as needed to support employment and self-sufficiency goals.
  • Coordinate closely with the RSS intake and employment specialists to ensure continuity of services, share relevant client information, and align case management activities with clients' goals.
  • Serve as an advocate to ensure clients understand and access available resources confidently and independently.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete client records, including case notes and other required documentation, in a designated client management database, while ensuring compliance with client confidentiality and funder requirements.
  • Maintain a highly collaborative relationship with all individuals involved in JFCS programming, including clients and other staff.
  • Participate in ongoing staff training and other professional development activities.
  • Work collaboratively with interpreters, volunteers, mentors, and interns to support client needs.
  • Assume other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience providing services to refugees and immigrants in the United States or overseas.
  • First-person experience as an immigrant/refugee is strongly encouraged.
  • Bilingual language skills are strongly encouraged.
  • Creativity, innovation, curiosity, and patience are essential skills.
  • Must have English ability (spoken and written), as well as top level organizational, communication, problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines.
  • Comfortable providing case management services in person and remotely, depending on client location and program requirements.
  • Experience inputting information into data systems.
  • Must work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to work during regular business hours, with flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends as required by program needs.
  • Access to a functional vehicle is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
