Position Summary:
The Child and Family Services Supervisor I is responsible for the direct supervision and oversight of assigned casework staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, compliant, and family-centered services. This role supports case progression toward permanency, provides guidance in complex and crisis situations, and promotes collaboration across internal departments and external partners, including Allegheny County Department of Human Services. This position contributes to ASCI's mission by strengthening service delivery for kinship families, enhancing staff performance, and supporting positive, timely permanency outcomes for children and families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct supervision, support, and performance oversight of assigned casework staff
- Review and approve case documentation to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
- Consult with staff on case-specific issues and guide service planning toward permanency outcomes
- Interface with clients and internal leadership to address complex case concerns and support resolution
- Prepare and submit reports to Child & Family Services leadership as required
- Compile and analyze monthly statistical data related to client services and outcomes
- Collaborate with the fiscal department to address client-related financial or service issues
- Serve as first-line support for on-call situations and crisis response
- Support staff in managing emergency and high-risk situations
- Foster collaboration across departments to ensure coordinated and effective service delivery
- Promote adherence to agency policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Education
- Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent - Preferred:
- Master's Degree in Social Work or related human services discipline with a minimum of two (2) years of child welfare experience, OR
- Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or related human services discipline with five (5) to ten (10) years of child welfare experience
Experience
- Required:
Minimum of three (3) years of experience working directly with children in a child-related field - Preferred:
Experience working within a child welfare or foster care environment
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory capabilities
- Knowledge of child welfare systems, foster care services, and family dynamics
- Knowledge of kinship foster care programs and service delivery models
- Ability to intervene effectively in crisis and emergency situations
- Ability to collaborate with Allegheny County Department of Human Services and adhere to professional standards
- Ability to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds, with emphasis on serving families of African American heritage
- Ability to foster collaboration across departments
- Ability to work collaboratively with leadership, including the Director and Managing Director of Child and Family Services
Certifications & Requirements
- Current Act 33, State Police, and FBI Clearances
- TB Test & Physical
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License
- Registered and insured vehicle with proof of insurance
- Motor Vehicle Record
- Work flexible hours as needed
- Availability for on-call responsibilities
- Ability to travel locally
