Overview
The Equipment Operator A position with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) gives you the chance to make a meaningful impact at the southeastern Veterans' Center. This role supports the daily operations by safely transporting residents, materials, and supplies, keeping essential operations moving and creating a dependable, welcoming environment for veterans and their spouses.
Description of WorkAs an Equipment Operator A, you will perform the following duties:
- Vehicle Operation:
Drive cars, trucks, vans, buses, and other vehicles to transport residents and materials. - Resident Safety:
Check and secure locking devices on residents and their equipment before transport. - Material Transport:
Make local and long‑distance deliveries of supplies, mail, and medical items. - Equipment Use:
Operate snow removal, hauling, and other equipment needed for maintenance work. - Maintenance Tasks:
Complete inspections, minor repairs, and cleaning of vehicles and equipment. - General Support:
Assist with loading, unloading, record keeping, and other assigned department tasks.
- Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
- Work hours:
7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with a 30‑minute lunch. Flexible schedule including weekends and holidays may be required. - Telework:
Not available. - Salary:
May be non‑negotiable in some cases.
- Minimum six months experience in the operation and maintenance of large vans, buses, and single‑chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or more; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Valid Class C Pennsylvania driver’s license.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
- Conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- Position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act, requiring satisfactory criminal history reports (PA State Police and FBI clearance).
