Position: Middle School Dean of Student Culture [SY25/26]

Middle School Dean of Student Culture [SY26/27]

Seeking an experienced Dean of Culture to join our team.

Why NHCS?

Neighborhood House Charter School (NHCS) is a tuition‑free open enrollment charter school for grades K1‑12 in Dorchester that is a public alternative to traditional district schools. We serve over 800 students across two campuses predominantly from the neighborhoods of Dorchester, Roxbury and Mattapan. We believe in the social‑emotional well‑being of our students and know that a well‑coached and supported educator is instrumental in helping our scholars both academically and in their SEL growth.

We do not give up on kids. Our expectation is that all of our students thrive at NHCS, graduate from high school and pursue post‑secondary education on the path to life success. Our educators are partners with our scholars and their families as they embark on this path.

What is the Dean of Student Culture role?

Serving as a key team member in the implementation and maintenance of a positive, safe, inclusive and supportive school culture, the Dean of Student Culture is instrumental in implementing a continuum of positive behavior support for all high school students in classroom and non‑classroom settings (hallways, lunchroom, bathrooms, etc.), enhancing the capacity of the school community by improving the connection between positive practices and teaching and learning.

This position is at our Queen St. Campus and the hours are Monday – Friday, 7:45 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. including some evenings. Compensation: this role offers a salary range of $74,500‑$100,000, with placement based on experience and qualifications.

Is this You?
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • You're passionate about building and sustaining a positive, inclusive school culture where students feel seen, supported, and accountable.
  • You have 3‑5 years of experience serving as a Dean, Culture Team member, or in a similar student support/behavior leadership role within a school setting.
  • You believe in helping students strengthen their social‑emotional skills, including self‑awareness, self‑regulation, and responsible decision‑making.
  • You're a strong problem‑solver who partners effectively with teachers, students, and families to address disruptive behaviors with care, consistency, and follow‑through.
  • You can motivate students in a firm but positive way that encourages growth, reflection, and ownership of their choices.
  • You understand the importance of fair and consistent discipline and are comfortable administering disciplinary procedures in alignment with district policies.
  • You value organization and accuracy, maintaining clear behavior data and documentation around incidents, interventions, and communication.
  • You're visible, proactive, and engaged whether supporting students during transitions and lunch or helping maintain a safe, structured environment.
  • You enjoy being part of the school community and are excited to plan and supervise school and community events like dances, town meetings, and celebrations.
  • You're flexible, team‑oriented, and willing to jump in where needed to support the broader mission of the school.
  • You are able to start ASAP.
Commitment to Equity and Inclusion
