Job Summary:

A ski instructor is a skilled professional dedicated to teaching individuals and groups how to ski/snowboard safely and effectively. They play a crucial role at Bousquet Mountain helping participants of all ages and abilities build confidence, develop techniques, and enjoy the excitement of skiing. Beyond teaching, ski instructors serve as ambassadors of the mountain, ensuring guests not only improve their skills but also have memorable and enjoyable experiences.

Bousquet Ski Instructors typically work in an alpine environment and are often exposed to cold, wind, snow, and variable weather conditions. Most of the workday is spent outdoors, either on beginner slopes, intermediate runs, or advanced terrain, depending on lesson assignments. Instructors may also spend time indoors for administrative tasks, lesson planning, or staff meetings.

The job often requires early mornings, weekend shifts, and extended hours during peak holiday periods. Flexibility and a passion for winter sports are essential attributes for success.

Job Description:

  • Instruction and Training:
    Deliver clear, structured ski lessons to students ranging from beginners to advanced skiers. Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles, ages, and skill levels.
  • Safety and Supervision:
    Prioritize the safety of all participants by enforcing resort rules, monitoring weather and slope conditions, and teaching proper techniques for injury prevention.
  • Assessment:
    Evaluate each student’s abilities and progress, providing constructive feedback to foster improvement. Adjust lesson plans and objectives based on student progress and needs.
  • Demonstration:
    Exhibit correct form and technique, providing visual examples for students to emulate. Model safe skiing practices at all times.
  • Motivation and Encouragement:
    Create a positive, supportive learning environment that encourages students to challenge themselves and celebrate achievements.
  • Equipment Guidance:
    Assist students with proper selection, fitting, and use of ski equipment, including boots, skis, poles, snowboards, and safety gear.
  • Emergency Response:
    Be prepared to act quickly and appropriately in emergencies, including administering first aid, contacting ski patrol, and ensuring the well-being of all students under their care.
  • Communication:
    Maintain clear and friendly communication with students, parents, and resort staff. Provide updates and lesson summaries as needed.
  • Professional Development:
    Keep current with industry trends, teaching techniques, and safety standards. Participate in ongoing training and PSIA/AASI certification programs.
