Position: Part-Time Evening Librarian - Berkshire Community College

Berkshire Community College (BCC) has the distinction of being the first community college established in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Nestled in the scenic Berkshire Hills, our nearly 2,000 students have access to a wide range of career and transfer programs on our newly renovated campus. Job Description:

Berkshire Community College seeks a service-oriented, student-focused, and equity-minded part-time Librarian to provide reference and instructional services in the afternoon and early evenings while classes are in session.

  • Provide in-person and online reference and research services to students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Assist patrons with the use of library resources including accessing the online catalog, discovery tools and article databases, as well as locating print sources in the library.
  • Teach classes in research strategies, information ethics, and resource analysis in conjunction with our daytime instructional program.
  • Collaborate with the other librarians on collection development.
  • Oversee the library closing.
  • Participate in library outreach, programming, and student engagement as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with librarians and staff to support departmental needs including backing up the evening library assistant with circulation and IDs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • MLS/MLIS or degree completion expected within six months from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Experience in academic or public library services.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations in an inclusive academic environment.
  • Experience in providing group instruction in support of information literacy preferred.
  • Experience with an LMS (Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard, etc.) preferred.

  • Location: Berkshire Community College, Library
  • Salary: $36.55 per hour per MCCC contract; part-time; non-benefited
  • Hours: Monday - Thursday - 2:00 to 7:00 pm (20 hours per week for 42 weeks of the year; typically, two weeks off in the winter, one week off in March, one week off in May, and six weeks off over the summer).
