Mortgage Loan Originator / Advisor, Risk Manager/Analyst
A well-established community-based financial institution in Central Massachusetts is seeking an experienced Senior Mortgage Underwriter / Processor to join its lending team. This role is fully onsite and ideal for someone who enjoys being hands‑on in the full mortgage lifecycle — from underwriting through final processing and secondary market coordination.
Position OverviewThe Senior Mortgage Underwriter / Processor will evaluate and process residential mortgage loans and home equity products. This individual will analyze applications, assess borrower risk, ensure compliance with regulatory and agency guidelines, and support loans intended for both portfolio retention and secondary market sale.
The right candidate will bring strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and the confidence to make sound underwriting decisions.
Key Responsibilities- Underwrite and process first mortgages and home equity products
- Review loan files for completeness, accuracy, and regulatory compliance
- Analyze borrower income, credit, assets, and collateral risk
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, agency, and internal lending guidelines
- Communicate with members and internal staff throughout the loan process
- Order, track, and clear underwriting conditions
- Support pricing and secondary market loan sales
- Assist with HMDA reporting and quality control review processes
- Maintain active NMLS registration as required
- Experience in residential mortgage underwriting and/or processing
- Familiarity with agency and secondary market guidelines (FNMA, FHLB, state housing programs, etc.)
- Strong understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of HMDA reporting preferred
- Experience with LOS systems (Calyx, MERS, or similar) a plus
- Strong analytical and math skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
- Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize workflow independently
