The Registered Professional Nurse functions as a health care team leader responsible for the safe delivery of patient-centered, goal‑oriented care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. The registered professional nurse also directs and guides patient teaching and activities of ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
Definition / Primary FunctionsA registered nurse is an individual licensed to practice professional nursing, holds ultimate responsibility for direct and indirect nursing care, is a graduate of an approved nursing school, and is currently licensed as an RN pursuant to M.G.L. c.112. Responsibilities include providing nursing care, health maintenance, teaching, counseling, planning, and restoration for optimal functioning and comfort of the patients served.
Position Qualifications- Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Has a thorough knowledge of nursing principles and procedures.
- Education and Training:
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing. BSN preferred.
- License, Certification & Registration:
- RN – Currently licensed as an RN in Massachusetts.
- BLS
- Other Requirements:
- Demonstrates continuing education in accordance with State regulations and ensures compliance with the unit‑specific scope of practice.
- Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must possess adequate sight/hearing or use prosthetics that enable these senses to function sufficiently for the position.
- Other Addendum(s) Requirements:
- Minimum one year of medical/surgical or pediatric experience preferred.
- At least one year maternity experience preferred.
- ACLS, NRP and AWHONN fetal monitoring education required within three months.
- NCC certification preferred.
- Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to organize workload and delegate non‑nursing tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively educate / instruct individuals and small groups.
- Demonstrated positive and professional demeanor at all times.
- Demonstrated ability to provide family‑focused patient care.
- Must be willing to cross‑train to pediatrics within one year of hire.
