Patient Care Tech - General
The General specialty within Patient Care Tech supports frontline patient care in hospital and clinic settings under RN supervision. The role focuses on basic patient assistance, mobility support, and data collection to help care teams coordinate treatment.
This position helps maintain patient comfort and safety and requires timely communication of changes to the nursing team.
Responsibilities- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and mobility under supervision
- Observe and document patient status, vital signs, and changes in condition
- Transport supplies, specimens, and equipment safely between units
- Assist with basic procedures and setup for routine clinical tasks
- Document care activities in the electronic health record and communicate updates
- Educate patients and families on basic care needs and safety
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a nursing assistant program or comparable clinical training.
Licensure:
Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) or state-approved nursing assistant registration where required.
Certifications:
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Experience or Skills:
Strong communication, reliable documentation, and ability to work with nursing teams in inpatient or outpatient settings.
Experience- Prior experience supporting nursing staff in acute or outpatient care
- Experience using electronic health records to document patient care
- Experience assisting with ADLs and mobility in a clinical environment
- BLS certification (if not already obtained)
- Experience in patient safety initiatives or infection control practices
Work is performed in hospital or clinic units as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Roles are typically routine and fast-paced with shift-based schedules; documentation is completed in the EHR; must follow standard safety and infection control protocols.
