At Canyon Ranch, we believe food is an essential part of the wellness journey. As a Sous Chef, you will play a key leadership role in ensuring every dish reflects our culinary standards, nutritional philosophy, and commitment to excellence. This position is responsible for leading day‑to‑day kitchen operations, maintaining exceptional food quality and presentation, and upholding all safety and sanitation standards.
Reporting directly to the Executive Chef and working closely with the Executive Sous Chef and Chef de Cuisine, the Sous Chef supervises culinary staff on duty and serves as a hands‑on leader on the hot line while also supporting administrative and operational responsibilities.
- Lead daily kitchen operations, supporting all stations in the kitchen
- Ensure consistent food quality and presentation by following recipes precisely, tasting dishes before service, and setting model plates
- Coach and mentor culinary team members to maintain high standards
- Supervise culinary staff to ensure shift readiness, station organization, proper breakdown/reset, and adherence to prep lists and par levels
- Maintain strict compliance with health codes, Serv Safe procedures, food labeling, storage standards, and overall kitchen cleanliness
- Identify and resolve safety concerns
- Check BEO's daily to stay on top of items needed for upcoming special functions
- Support hiring, training, re‑training, and disciplinary processes
- Champion the Canyon Ranch nutrition philosophy and confidently represent our culinary standards to guests and colleagues
- Communicates in a professional manner with all line staff and management to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen and guest satisfaction
- 6-10 years of specialized culinary experience in a similar role or related field
- Proven experience leading line operations and supervising kitchen staff
- Strong understanding of food quality control, presentation standards, and recipe execution
- Serv Safe certification and comprehensive knowledge of food safety and health regulations
- Ability to balance hands‑on kitchen leadership with administrative responsibilities
- Experience reviewing BEOs and supporting banquet or special event execution
- Strong coaching, communication, and team development skills
- Passion for wellness‑focused cuisine and alignment with the Canyon Ranch food philosophy
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, service‑driven environment
- Use of services and facilities including the spa, fitness classes, lectures, and overnight stays at all Canyon Ranch locations nationwide.
