Operations Assistant Store Manager in Training (OASM-IT) will gain hands‑on experience in the key responsibilities and functions of a Operations Assistant Store Manager at The Home Depot. The OASM‑IT will undergo a comprehensive training program that includes hands‑on experience, mentorship, and leadership development. Throughout their training, OASM‑ITs will become familiar with Manager on Duty duties and learn to manage various aspects of the store, including associates, sales, customer service, safety standards, product availability, store presentation, and overall profitability.

They will learn to oversee the smooth operation of several key areas, including the Customer Service Desk, Receiving, Tool Rental, Order Fulfillment, Lot Loaders, and the Back Office. OASM‑ITs will collaborate with the Store Manager, Assistant Store Managers, and operational field teams and learn to develop and implement strategies that boost sales and profitability, creating actionable game plans for departmental success, and ensuring smooth department operations.

OASM‑ITs are expected to lead by example and uphold all lawful company policies and positions.

Position Purpose

To provide hands‑on training for the Operations Assistant Store Manager role, covering all aspects of retail store management, customer service, and business operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Training (50%) – Participate in a structured program covering operations, customer service, sales & profitability, company policies, and procedures. Learn tactics for staffing and scheduling, resolving stock deficiencies, coaching associates, handling customer issues, and supporting service needs for both installed sales/special orders and product sales. Execute performance management processes and complete all assigned training modules and assessments.
  • Customer Experience (15%) – Supervise associates in the selling effort, lead GET culture, and set the example. Drive customer service and associate engagement throughout the store; ensure customer concerns are solved effectively.
  • Sales and Productivity (15%) – Work with key partners to plan merchandise placement, signing, and support stock integrity through inventory management. Maintain and operate all store equipment and systems and manage daily financial operations.
  • Operations Management (10%) – Perform opening, closing, MOD, and other whole‑store focus responsibilities. Adhere to all company policies and procedures and hold associates accountable. Command store SOPs, especially safety compliance, and maintain process accuracy to mitigate shrink.
  • Safety (10%) – Ensure self and associates follow all safety and hazmat procedures and Safety Matters guidelines at all times.

Travel Requirements
  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 5% of the time.
Physical Requirements
  • Must continuously stand or walk or regularly lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (8‑20 pounds).

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Conditions could produce mild discomfort on occasion.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Pay Range for Eligible Regions

The pay range for this position is between $65,000.00 – $75,000.00 for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Nevada, New York City, Ithaca (NY), Westchester County (NY), and Washington residents.
