The Bus Operator’s primary responsibilities are to safely and efficiently operate their assigned vehicle on a specified route in accordance with the time schedule allotted for that route. Public Transit Bus Operators transport passengers over specified routes to local or distant points according to time schedules. This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transportation Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations.
Bus Operators act as a “front-line” customer service representative of the Company. Bus Operators use good judgment, interpersonal communication skills, and workplace knowledge to assist customers with information, assure passenger safety, and to resolve problems and conflicts wherever possible.
To be a public transit bus operator with BTM, employees must possess a Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or
B) with a Passenger “P” Endorsement and without an Air-Brake Restriction. Applicants with a Class A CDL, but who lack the necessary Passenger Endorsement must be in possession of a Massachusetts CDL Passenger “P” Endorsement Permit.
