Position DefinitionWater Distribution Operator I is an entry‑level position in a training status requiring immediate to general supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Learn and perform maintenance and operation tasks of a water distribution system.
- Learn proper use of tools and equipment required to perform the job.
- Under direction, participate in installation, repairs, and replacement of water mains, services, valves, fire hydrants and meters.
- Interact with customers as a representative of the Company.
- Perform meter reads, operations, and field investigations.
- Collect delinquent accounts and assist in routine maintenance activities such as system flushing, valve exercising, and fire hydrant maintenance.
- Follow established policies and procedures for equipment repair.
- Operate company vehicles and equipment according to safety procedures and policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Available for emergency response 24 hrs/day, 7 days/week, and must reside within 25 miles of the nearest water system boundary.
- Work under immediate supervision.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Good communication skills.
- General PC skills.
- Valid California driver’s license.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and all hours of the day.
Physical demands include standing, climbing, walking, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, grasping, reaching, stooping, crouching, sitting, typing, reading, writing, color determination, speaking, and listening for extended periods.
