The $6,000 recruitment incentive shall be paid in equal installments for the first twenty-six (26) consecutive biweekly pay periods in the position.
Termination from employment will result in any remaining cash incentive payments being forfeited. Incentives are subject to El Dorado County Personnel Rules.
In addition, please review the DSA MOU for applicable incentive pays and differentials such as Tahoe Employment Differential, Education Incentive Pay, Detective Pay, Uniform Allowances and more! Maximum potential pay without overtime: $70.75/hr, $12,263/month, $147,160/year
  • AA/AS degree 2%, BA/BS degree 5%, MA/MS degree 5% (maximum 10%)
  • Intermediate POST Certificate 6.5% or Advanced POST Certificate 12.5%
  • Specialty Assignment 5% (examples include Detective, FTO, Resident Deputy)
  • Additional pays (not included in above rates):
    • Holiday Pay (4 hours @ hourly rate), Optional Benefit Credit ($160/24pp), Uniform Allowance ($41.67/24pp), Tahoe Differential ($92.30/26pp)

THE OPPORTUNITY

Deputy Sheriffs have the opportunity to serve and protect their communities proactively, following the Sheriff’s vision of total enforcement on crime and criminals and total care for victims, witnesses, and the community. Deputies are typically assigned to either the South Lake Tahoe or Placerville offices. This recruitment is specifically for assignment to the South Lake Tahoe office; specialty assignment opportunities in South Lake Tahoe include Office of Emergency Services, Search and Rescue Coordinator, Court Security Bailiff, Civil Coroner Detective, General Investigations Detective and Patrol Deputy.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate is an experienced law enforcement officer who demonstrates sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and community-focused environment. Ideal candidates will possess qualifications equivalent to those of a Deputy Sheriff II. Out-of-state candidates must have successfully completed a California POST Basic Course Waiver prior to appointment. Out-of-State candidates who do not possess a California POST Basic Certificate will be hired at the Deputy I level.

Training Assignment:

A majority of initial training will occur at the Placerville office. During the training period, candidates may be transferred to the South Lake Tahoe office as determined by the Field Training Officer (FTO) chain of command and operational needs. For lateral deputy hires, the training period may be modified based on the trainee’s demonstrated performance and level of experience, but shall consist of a minimum of ten (10) weeks.

Upon successful completion of the Placerville phase of field training, candidates will be transferred to South Lake Tahoe to complete field training and begin their assignment.
