Equipment Technician

Summit Handling Systems, Inc is an award‑winning, privately owned third‑generation family business with a 70+ year presence in the Northeast. We sell, service and rent forklifts and related materials handling equipment from five locations and employ over 180 people.

We are seeking an experienced Equipment Technician to service various types of equipment at our state‑of‑the‑art facility. The position will require working out of our Plainfield location with limited supervision, so the ability to work, think and operate independently is a must.

Salary Range: $20 – $44 per hour.

• Conduct regular inspection and service on various configurations of equipment
• Ensure forklifts are functioning smoothly and safely for operating
• Interact with operators to identify any malfunctions of equipment
• Test‑operate machinery to detect issues and repair the same
• Maintain a record of service cycles and part changes
• Follow all safety norms laid down by the industry for work‑related functions
• Place requisitions for spare parts
• Ensure proper handling of all repair tools and testing equipment
• Follow all orders and tasks as assigned by the supervising manager

• Analyze and test equipment to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers’ specifications and safety requirements
• Inspect and diagnose equipment faults and malfunctions to determine required repairs using a variety of electronic meters, infrared engine analyzers, gauges, and computerized diagnostic programs
• Determine the cause of failure and take appropriate steps using OEM manuals and online resources to prevent future occurrences
• Dismantle and reassemble equipment
• Perform routine and scheduled planned maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrication, and tune‑ups; maintain equipment service records, identifying and correcting defects or problems
• Complete required paperwork (work orders, warranty documents, etc.) and submit them timely and accurately with all required information including appropriate signatures
• Represent the company professionally to customers by following the business attire policy, being prompt for service calls, and leaving the customer’s work‑site neat and orderly
• Plan work using procedures, technical manuals, and experience to ensure timely and accurate repair of machinery or equipment

• High school degree, diploma, or a GED equivalent qualification from a certified school
• Valid driver’s license with a good history
• Ability to operate a computer
• Ownership of hand tools
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Meeting quality and productivity standards
• Professional mechanical experience: 5 years (Required)

Pay Range: $41,600 – $91,520 USD
