Hiring Range: $28.70 - $30.42 hourly.
To provide a wide variety of highly responsible and complex managerial duties requiring the exercise of a high level of discretion; to provide professional, effective and efficient customer service assistance to students, faculty, and college personnel, and support to the Automotive Service faculty. Maintains automotive service shop and classroom equipment. Assists instructors in the shop on an as-needed basis. Supervises student workers assigned to the area.
Considerable judgment, initiative, and independent action in establishing or adapting work procedures to new situations are required. Work requires knowledge of the policies and procedures within the Department and College Systems.
Job Duties and
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise automotive students in an instructional setting and allocate work orders for lab assignments.
- Operate and maintain the automotive service department, assist in the instruction of students, schedule service work for laboratory assignments, purchase parts, tools, and equipment at the direction of the instructional staff, hire, train and supervise part‑time employees, and oversee maintenance and cleanliness of the automotive facility and equipment; enforce safety and housekeeping rules.
- Communicate with customers, vendors, students, and staff regarding vehicle service scheduling and repairs; complete required documents for parts and service operations.
- Oversee procurement, inventory, and processing of parts to service vehicles.
- Maintain an inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies for the Automotive Service Department.
- Maintain purchase and repair orders in computerized ledgers; maintain department records.
- Update and maintain service literature and information delivery systems.
- Supervise the maintenance and repair scheduling for designated campus vehicles consistent with the educational requirements of the program.
- Maintain and enforce environmental policies that relate to the automotive facilities and oversee storage and disposal of laboratory‑generated “special waste.”
- Participate and support department and college goals and objectives.
- Associate degree in Automotive Service Technology or a suitable combination of education and work experience.
- Ase Master Automotive Technician Certification; ASE Automotive Technician Certification considered with suitable professional experience.
- Three (3) years of experience as an automotive technician or related field.
- Strong interpersonal, management, and supervisory skills.
- Ability to operate and maintain an automotive service department, keep records, and communicate effectively with students, staff, and vendors.
- Knowledge of precision measuring instruments, hand and power tools, specialized automotive service equipment, and current office equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

- English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.

- Duties performed indoors in the usual Automotive Technology environment and/or outdoors.
Full time employment. Union: TOSSC. Scheduled hours: 40 per week.
