Position Purpose
The Instructional Paraprofessional is considered a ministerial employee by their role working in a Catholic School and agree to work diligently to support and strengthen the Catholic Church and its value system. By word and example, Catholic school employees support all the official religious teachings of the Catholic Church throughout their personal and professional lives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The Instructional Paraprofessional...
  • Instructional paraprofessionals with degrees may initiate instruction, assume responsibility for classroom management and give grades to individual students.
  • Instructional paraprofessionals with sixty (60) hours but no degree require more direct supervision.
  • Lesson planning, classroom management and the grading of students are joint responsibilities between the paraprofessional and their supervisor.
  • The Instructional paraprofessional is under the direction of the principal in all school matters and is obligated to observe conscientiously all regulations of the diocesan school system and the local school.
  • Observe strictly the Code of Ethics and Professional Teaching Standards;
  • Seek an understanding of, and implement the educational philosophy of the local school;
  • Instruct children in assigned subjects, direct and guide students' learning throughout the day, and adjust instructional level to meet individual student needs;
  • Attend to related professional duties, including but not limited to:
    • planning lessons,
    • preparing materials,
    • helping individual students,
    • reading professional literature,
    • serving on diocesan staff committees (as directed by the principal),
    • attending regularly scheduled faculty meetings (as directed by the principal),
    • conferring with the principal on instructional and disciplinary problems;
  • Participate in faculty meetings and prescribed in-service training opportunities, as directed by the principal;
  • Attend teacher institutes as stipulated by the school and the Catholic Schools Office, as directed by the principal;
  • Join with the other staff members in supervising the children and maintaining discipline on the premises before, during and after school, as directed by the principal;
  • Be present when classes are scheduled to begin and not leave the classroom during class periods except for emergency reasons;
  • See that students are never allowed to remain in the classroom without proper supervision;
  • Secure the approval of the principal for important communications with parents concerning school matters;
  • Encourage responsibility on the part of students in their conduct and behavior with each other and with others outside the school community;
  • Contribute to the advancement of the physical well-being and wholesome mental attitudes of the students;
  • Make appropriate reports to the principal and parents concerning the educational growth and development of students;
  • Work together with the parents, thereby assisting them in discharging their solemn obligation to see that their children receive a proper Christian education;
  • Confer with parents, for the purpose of discussing constructively the child's rate of progress in school and other matters of mutual concern, when necessary;
  • Performs other related tasks assigned by the principal.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Experience in an Early Childhood setting preferred, but not required.
  • The aide must demonstrate a commitment to the values and teachings of the Catholic faith, support the spiritual development of young children, and assist the lead teacher in creating a nurturing, faith-filled learning environment. Strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to foster the cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual growth of each child are essential.
Hourly Range $15.00 - $22.00
