Special Education Paraprofessionals play a vital role in supporting the academic, behavioral, and health/hygiene needs of our students as directed by Special Education Teachers. The Specialized Program Paraprofessional is responsible for providing services and supports to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for assisting in supervision, care, and instruction of students with unique or specialized needs in the regular classroom or in a specialized program, implementing plans, interventions, and strategies for instruction on academic, social/emotional, and life skills, implementing behavioral plans, gathering data, assisting with toileting, feeding, lifting, monitoring students, and utilizing behavioral approaches such as ABA or CPI.
Responsibilities- Assisting in supervision, care, and instruction of students with unique or specialized needs in the regular classroom or specialized program.
- Assisting in implementing plans, interventions, and strategies for instruction on academic, social/emotional, and life skills.
- Implementing behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions.
- Gathering data related to student needs and abilities.
- Assisting with students who may require toileting, feeding and lifting.
- Monitoring students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments for maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
- Utilizing behavioral approaches such as ABA or CPI as needed to ensure students access the least restrictive environment.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Assist students across school settings (lunch, recess, restroom).
- Willing to work with students with disabilities or special needs.
- Ability to monitor student behavior.
- Ability to implement de-escalation techniques.
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- One of the listed State of Illinois Licenses registered in Will County:
Paraprofessional (ELS(para)), Substitute (SUB), or Professional Educator License (PEL). - College transcripts with 60+ credit hours or have passed the Work Keys Assessment.
