Position: Special Education Paraprofessional Level III (SELECT)

Job Summary

Special Education Paraprofessionals play a vital role in supporting the academic, behavioral, and health/hygiene needs of students as directed by Special Education Teachers. The Specialized Program Paraprofessional provides services and supports to the instructional program with a focus on students with unique or specialized needs.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in supervision, care, and instruction of students with unique or specialized needs in the regular classroom or a specialized program.
  • Assist in implementing plans, interventions, and strategies for instruction on academic, social/emotional, and life skills.
  • Implement behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Gather data related to student needs and abilities.
  • Assist students who may require toileting, feeding, and lifting.
  • Monitor students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments (e.g., restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, parking lots) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Utilize behavioral approaches such as ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) or CPI (Crisis Prevention) to support students in accessing the least restrictive environment (LRE).
  • Work as a team member across school settings (lunch, recess, restroom).
  • Monitor student behavior and apply de‑escalation techniques.
  • Establish positive working relationships with students, parents, and staff.
Hours

Full Time: 7 hours per day, 9 months. Monday – Friday.

Compensation

Minimum $20.70 per hour based on verifiable similar experience per the negotiated PASS Agreement.

Qualifications
  • One of the following State of Illinois Licenses registered in Will County:
    Paraprofessional Approval (PARA(STA)), Paraprofessional (ELS(PARA)), Substitute (SUB), or Professional Educator License (PEL).
  • College transcripts with 60+ credit hours or completion of the Work Keys Assessment submitted to obtain licensure/certification.
