Youth Services Assistant

Are you an upbeat, friendly, and creative person? Do you enjoy working with children and their families? The Plainfield Area Public Library's dynamic and collaborative Youth & Teen Services Department is looking for you to join our exceptional team.

What you might do in a day:

• Welcome patrons at the Youth & Teen Services Desk and help them navigate all the Library has to offer.
• Answer basic reference and readers' advisory questions.
• Locate items in the collection or place holds on items.
• Assist patrons in the use of public computers, devices, digital and print resources.
• Assist Librarians in preparing programs and special activities.
• Collaborate with staff from other departments on a committee or special event.

We are looking for candidates with:

• Two years of related experience working with children in a library or public setting
• Fantastic communication and customer service skills
• Attention to detail and organization
• Basic technology and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
• Ability to work 19 hours, including the following shifts:
  • Mondays 9-4
  • Thursdays 5-9
  • Rotating Fridays and Saturdays 9am to 5pm (second and fourth Friday of the month and first and third Saturday of the month)
  • One Sunday a month

This position is scheduled to work 19 hours per week. Pay and benefits include:

• Hourly rate of $15.74 to 16.72 depending on experience
• Participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF)
• Paid personal hours Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
