Pharmacy Technician Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy and other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Assist and coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers in operating pharmacy cash registers if PTCB certified.
  • Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
Customer Experience
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services, resolving issues, and answering questions to ensure a positive experience.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with all team members, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.
  • Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers.
Operations
  • Assist in the practice of pharmacy under pharmacist supervision, respecting state, federal, and company policy and the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
  • Perform duties assigned by the Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, verifying medicines, scheduling, and maintaining workflow.
  • Report prescription errors immediately and adhere to Company policies and the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Strictly adhere to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable dispensing activities.
  • Register sales on assigned cash registers, handle cash, and assist customers in locating products.
  • Handle telephone calls not requiring the pharmacist’s personal attention, including those to physicians.
  • Process manual claims for third‑party prescription services and other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Assist the Pharmacy Department with inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments, and filing claims for overages, shortages, or damaged goods.
  • Assist the pharmacist administering clinical services, including collection and labeling of blood/urine samples and coordination of healthcare clinics.
  • Support the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in building relationships with local medical community members through outreach and detailing.
  • Assist with exterior and interior maintenance of the Pharmacy Department, ensuring supplies, cleanliness, and appearance.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Training & Personal Development
  • Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program or state‑required certification. PTCB certification is a condition for promotion to senior technician.
  • Attend training, complete PPLs requested by Manager, and acquire continuing education credits. Maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy along with the latest developments.
Basic Qualifications
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference for six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Preference for prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Preference for good math skills for accurate prescription filling (counting, measuring, weighing).
  • Preference for strong computer skills.
  • Preference for knowledge of store inventory control.
  • Preference for PTCB certification.
