Medical Collections Specialist (Litigation Experience Required)
We are seeking an experienced Medical Collections Specialist with litigation experience to join our revenue cycle team. This role is responsible for aggressively and compliantly pursuing outstanding medical accounts, managing escalated collections, and supporting accounts that require legal review or litigation coordination.
The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of healthcare billing, payer guidelines, and the legal processes associated with litigation.
Key Responsibilities- Collections & Account Resolution
- Manage and pursue outstanding patient and insurance balances
- Conduct follow-up on aged accounts and reduce AR
- Review delinquent accounts for escalation or legal referral
- Coordinate payment plans and settlements within company guidelines
- Maintain detailed documentation of collection efforts
- Litigation & Legal Coordination
- Prepare accounts for legal referral, including required documentation
- Work directly with attorneys or legal teams on active cases
- Monitor litigation accounts and provide requested records
- Review court documents and judgments
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations
- Compliance & Regulatory Adherence
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and healthcare regulations
- Adhere to FDCPA and applicable debt collection laws
- Follow internal compliance policies and documentation standards
- Required
- 2-3+ years of medical collections experience
- Direct experience handling accounts in litigation
- Strong understanding of AR aging and collections strategies
- Knowledge of healthcare billing and payer processes
- Familiarity with FDCPA and state collection laws
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills
- Preferred
- Experience working with healthcare attorneys or legal departments
- Knowledge of court filing processes and garnishments
- Experience with EMR/PM systems
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage high-volume workload
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Professional and confident communication style
- Ability to maintain composure in escalated situations
- Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.
- 4:30 p.m.
