Job Summary:

The Middle School Life Skills Teacher provides instruction to students with special needs, focusing on developing functional academic, social, communication, and independent living skills. The teacher creates a structured, supportive environment that promotes student growth, self‑advocacy, and successful participation in school and community settings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with special education teams.
  • Provide direct instruction in daily living skills, social skills, communication, and functional academics.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet a wide range of learning, behavioral, and physical needs.
  • Use data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, and support staff.
  • Teach and reinforce appropriate behavior and self‑regulation strategies.
  • Facilitate vocational exploration and pre‑employment skill development when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with special education laws and policies.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and needs.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Valid state teaching license/certification in Special Education.
  • Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities preferred.
  • Strong classroom management, collaboration, and communication skills.
Work Environment:

Classroom, community‑based instruction sites, and school settings that may require physical assistance for students, including lifting or mobility support.
